GLOSSARY
An endorsement is a written amendment to the policy. It can add coverage, take it away, change a limit, or correct a name or vehicle. Once attached, it controls over the original wording where they conflict.
People sometimes say “rider” for the same idea, especially for an optional add-on. The paperwork is still an endorsement on the policy.
EXAMPLE
You add a teenage driver mid-term. The carrier issues an endorsement listing that driver and any premium change, and it becomes part of the contract.
Life changes faster than the annual renewal. An endorsement is how the policy catches up without waiting a year.
Tell your agent before you add a car, a driver, or a new address. Coverage is not automatic just because you bought something last weekend.
